Fish fry




Preparation time: 45 minutes

Level: Easy

For the marinade:

  • 4-6 fish fillets
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 pod of garlic
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 cup green coriander
  • ½ tsp carom seeds (ajwain/owaa)
  • ½ cumin seeds
  • 1½ tsp red chili powder/2 dry red chilies soaked in warm water (adjust the spice according to your preference)
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1 tbsp chat masala (optional)
  • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • Salt as per taste
  • 3 teaspoons lemon juice
For the batter:

  • ½ cup rice flour
  • ½ cup fine semolina (rawa)
  • 1 tbsp green coriander finely chopped (optional)
  • Lemon wedges for garnishing
  • Mix all the batter ingredients
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil to fry

Method:

  • Make fine paste of all the ingredients mentioned in marinade section. Add water only if the paste is too thick.
  • Apply this paste to the fish and allow it to sit for 20 minutes.
  • Dip the fish fillets in the batter. Coat it well from all sides.
  • Shallow fry the fish fillets on medium heat until they turn golden brown.
  • Fish is ready to serve.Garnish it with lemon wedges and serve it with green chutney.
